The U.S. dollar was lower against other major currencies in European trading Monday. Gold rose.
The euro traded at $1.4689, up from $1.4470 late Friday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.4720.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Friday, included 106.39 Japanese yen, down from 107.01; 1.0826 Swiss francs, down from 1.1024; and 1.0376 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0499.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8464, up from $1.8355.
In midday New York trading Monday, the dollar bought 106.32 yen and 1.0807 francs, while the pound was worth $1.8491.
Gold traded in London at $889.00 per troy ounce, up from $869.00 late Friday.
