I've had mine for about 20 years now, not that I use it nearly enough. I tend to go in and out of grinding everything I drink, to taking the easy way out (for years at a time, most notably while my kids were young) and not grinding unless it's a holiday.
The reason for the dropped star is that it's kind of a pain to keep counters clean when transferring grounds to the "whole wheat" paper filters (the unbleached variety). But after reading not such impressive reviews about those built-in grinders/coffee machines (I was so hoping that was the secret to my lazy way to make incredible coffee), I am vowing to return to the world of great coffee with my inexpensive and impressive grinder...and my $9.99 no-name coffee brewer when I'm truly lazy, using my push-pot or stovetop espresso maker on weekends and holidays. Life's too short not to drink fabulous coffee, right?
I must also confess this grinder also appeals to my cheap side; I'm thrilled to see if mine eventually gives out, I can actually afford to replace it.

The Krups 203-42 is a great grinder for the price. I read several reviews of people complaining that it made the coffee too fine. It does if you grind it too long. If you read the instructions it tells you not to grind for more than 20 seconds because the heat generated by the blades burns the beans and has an adverse affect on the taste of the coffee. I grind for 15 seconds and it's perfect for the cone, filter, pour process I use. If I had a percolator I'd grind for 10 seconds. Expresso, I'd try 15 seconds, stop for 15 seconds and try another 10. That way I wouldn't burn the beans. Just read the instructions and adapt as needed.
I always turn it upside down at the end, press for a second and get the ground beans in the lid. That way there's no spilling grounds.
The grinder looks good and has a nice feel.

I don't know how this reflects on the product today, but I bought this very model in 1982 and have used it at least once a day, often more than that, every day for more than 26 years. I haven't replaced a single part. Have you ever had an electrical appliance last like that? I haven't. It was the best grinder for the money then and apparently it still is.
I am a certified coffee snob and I only make small batches of fresh ground coffee so the capacity has not been a problem, although if I had a 12 cup coffeemaker I'd have to do two batches of beans. And it can't grind all the way down to espresso grind like a burr grinder could, although for many home espresso machines it is more than adequate. I wish all good things lasted like this machine!

I had stuck with buying pre-ground Illy coffee, until I decided to take the big step of grinding my own. It does the trick and I am definitely satisfied with it's performance and the fresh brewed coffee that I enjoy everyday. Easy to store and use, I would recommend this to a friend and even buy another.
This grinder does not have any coarse control and tends to grind on the finer side. It is also useful for spices.

This grinder does the trick. I don't drink coffee, I use it to grind flax seeds and it's great. Quiet, efficient, good looking.
