After using and throwing away too many "cheapo" umbrellas, I finally reviewed umbrellas. The Gust Buster promised to withstand high wind gusts, patented design to allow wind escape and not turn inside out, and seemed fair price for value. Bought from Amazon, received two days later. The umbrella received had a small manufacturing flaw. Found the manufacturer's customer service phone number. No long-winding numbers and menus, but instant live U.S. help. I explained what was wrong and they immediately offered to send out replacement, which I received next day.
I have been totally satisfied with the quality of the umbrella. It lives up to its billing; would also make a great present. I like the sturdy wooden handle as well. Makes a great walking-stick. Above average customer service. Would recommend doing an online price comparison before buying as this umbrella is sold at many golf shops for a much higher price. I would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who is tired of flimsy, pocket-size products.

Bought this GustBuster to replace my smaller briefcase size GustBuster (which was not as well made or designed as this one, and soon started falling apart!)
It holds up to the strong winds and it doesn't show signs of falling apart anytime soon.

I live in a place that doesn't see too much rain, but when there is rain, it is usually accompanied by gusty wind. During the rainy season last year, I purchased 4 umbrellas, and had 3 of them break in a 3 week period due to windy conditions. That's when I decided to buy an umbrella that could stand up to the kind of winds I am likely to face. I sifted through a pile of online reviews and settled on this GustBuster Classic 48-Inch Automatic Golf Umbrella.
This umbrella has performed admirably so far during the 2008 winter rainy season. It is large, so even when I'm wearing my backpack, my books and notebooks don't get very soaked, and I laugh at the wind that now just passes through without turning the umbrella inside out. I pity the other students I see trudging along campus with their tiny, ineffectual compact umbrellas. This umbrella is pricier than the umbrellas you can buy at most convenience stores, but so far it has been well worth the premium.

Purchased three of these umbrellas (one was the smaller "metro" umbrella.) All have been sturdy and have held up through all kinds of storms and wind. But they all have one major defect -- they will not stay closed! The clasp does not jut out far enough and when I close the umbrellas they pop back open within a few seconds. My other (cheaper) umbrellas have never had this problem. This forces me to give these only two stars instead of five. Definitely would not purchase again.

I purchased this umbrella to keep me dry in the windy city of Chicago. While all my previous umbrellas have turned inside out during a windy day; this umbrella has lived up to it's name. The size is just right for me (a smaller woman); however, for a bigger person it may be too small. My only complaint is it is rather awkward to carry around, especially for someone who takes public transportation. Overall, it's sturdy structure and classic look is just right for someone who want to keep dry in the windy elements.
