I live in New York City, where we're constantly walking, and in need of good umbrellas that can handle wind. I used the GustBuster before, which was great, but wanted a more portable option. I thought this wood be good.
The reality is that it doesn't protect from wind much better than a regular umbrella. At winds where a typical umbrella might turn upside down, this one does as well.
I'll keep it as a regular umbrella, as the automatic open and close is very convenient and works well. But when I know there's going to be wind, I'll break out the gustbuster instead.

I've had this umbrella for about a year and it worked well and the small size was nice for traveling. Unfortunately it got stuck in the open position and I could not get it to close. I tried to contact ShedRain to see if they could help but they failed to respond to my request for help. I checked the warranty but it required me to mail in the umbrella and then hope that they would cover the repair. The cost to mail them the OPEN umbrella would have been greater than what I paid for the umbrella. I finally pulled really hard and it closed but something broke and it's now useless. I think you would be better off just getting a cheap umbrella and when it breaks just toss it and get another. The warranty for this umbrella sounds good but it's very difficult to take advantage of and the company is impossible to contact.
Summary - Save your money and get a cheap disposable umbrella.

Is is a functional umbrella, but I had hoped that it should have been small. Also, the wind thing is no as efficient as i had hoped. The umbrella will turn it self, however less then usually.

I have only had the opportunity to use the umbrella a couple of times but it seems to be well made and it is exactly the right size to fit in my tote bag.

I've now replaced all my umbrellas (home, car, office, and suitcase) with four umbrellas of this model. I started with one and gradually swapped them all out. It's tiny and light, but windproof even on gusty Florida days.
